This year’s annual South Bay Business Hall of Fame luncheon will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, at the Holiday Inn Torrance which is located at 18900 South Vermont Ave. One of the recipients will be The Original Red Onion. The Rolling Hills Estates restaurant is one of five inductees this year, according to Brendan Huffman, the South Bay Business Hall of Fame's policy director. "Each of these inductees has contributed significantly to the region’s economy and culture for many decades," Huffman said. Torrance has been named as one of the most livable midsize cites in the United States. It came in Number 32. The South Bay’s largest community received the rating from a survey of cities with populations of 20,000 to 350,000 conducted by the website livability.com. Torrance received high marks for the quality of education available and amenities such as parks and climate, but surprisingly low grades for health-care facilities. I do not understand that when we have Torrance Memorial Medical Center, Little Company of Mary Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente Medical Offices plus Kaiser Medical Center just a few blocks from the city boundaries, Mayor Scotto said, “Rated 32nd in the United States is a pretty big deal, I think, all in all, people would say Torrance is a great place to live." OCT. 11 THRU NOV. 10 IN SAN PEDRO Acrobatic performers will be featured under the 66ft. high Blue and Yellow big top, embodying the spirit of amphibians, Native American Hoop Dancers and a figure from outer space called the Crystal Man. The two and one half hour show opens Oct. 11 in San Pedro, at the Port of Los Angeles with the performances scheduled through Nov. 10th. Check it out at Berth 46, 3011 Miner Street. Tickets run from $50 up to $150. Then show travels to the Orange County Great Park Festival Site in Irvine beginning on Nov. 21. The entire show will move to the Santa Monica Pier on Jan. 17th. The City of Carson completed the sale of a lot that formerly housed the Dominguez Trailer Park. The land will be used to build 13 new single family homes and the development has been approved by the City Council. The one acre parcel located at 2666 Dominquez St. was sold to City Ventures for $467,000. The city will use the profits to help develop an affordable housing complex at 409 E. Carson St. according to staff reports. Read More

Well tomorrow being the August 31 the famous and historic "Green Store" should close for good, but Nancy Comaford, owner of The Green Store property, has announced that the iconic grocery store in Hermosa Beach will not be permanently closing its doors as initially reported. A new tenant is scheduled to take over the operation. Thank Goodness 22nd street would not be the same. Read More
