Choosing Housing and School Districts
Choosing Housing and School Districts
Which is more important – the type of home or the school districts it’s in? For many, choosing housing and school districts go hand-in-hand!
School Districts
Many schools districts can offer diverse learning, that may or may not be compatible to your student’s needs. I know parents who have children with “learning disabilities”. Some school districts handle this differently … immersion vs special day classes. Which is better for your student? You can check with the different school districts online to see what they offer.
For example, in Torrance Unified School District, the Special Education Department offers a continuum of placements and services to eligible students from ages three to 22. The department offers preschool (ages 3-5) programming on specialized campuses/classrooms and in designated general education/state preschool sites. K-12 services are provided in the settings that address students’ unique needs in the least restrictive environment, utilizing a continuum of services from neighborhood school inclusion to residential placement.
While in the Palos Verdes School District, the special education and pupil personnel services department is a division of Educational Services that is responsible for the leadership, administration, and supervision for Special Education, Section 504, and Health Services. Our department is passionate about supporting our students to ensure they are receiving the appropriate levels of support to meet their individualized needs in the least restrictive environment. Our goal is to work in collaboration with parents, the community, and school teams in order to provide the most optimal outcomes for all students.
Housing
But how do you find a home in the school district that may work for you and your family? Your Realtor may be able to guide you. But here is an easy way to do a search. Go to the Search by Maps page on my website, www.Beachcitiesoline.com; add in a school that you have considered and you will find all of the active listings in the area.
You can go to each school district online. They will be able to provide you with a list of schools in the district. Here is a list of 100 schools in the South Bay area of Southern California. Each school provides stats that may help answer some of your questions.
Finding the right home in the right school district, goes hand-in-hand. Don’t you agree?
