That vision came to life as an extraordinary example of mid-century modernism- informed not only by his studies at the USC School of Architecture, but also by an ethos of innovation and resourcefulness. A dramatic ceiling hung fireplace at the center of the open plan living room is one such example of the architect's ingenuity; it was formed from a repurposed culvert pipe, made to float above a 360 degree hearth of terrazzo mixed with colorful local abalone shells. Interior and exterior spaces feel seamless, with expansive walls of glass embracing the adjacent gardens, patios, and kidney shaped pool as well as framing the breathtaking distant views. Living spaces are bathed in natural light as the sun's path traverses the sky. Remaining almost entirely intact as built, the home is filled with distinctive original details: exposed aggregate concrete floors, bouquet stone walls, mosaic tile, floating cabinetry, radiant heated floors, and more. Directly adjacent to the 4 bd/2ba main residence is a separate 1bd/1ba casita with its own side yard entrance, providing excellent privacy for guests and/or longer term family stays.
