Madrona Marsh
Did you know that there is an island in Torrance? Yes there is and it is the Madrona Marsh, one of the last remaining vernal marshes. Depending on the time of year your are going to be welcomed by Spring’s birds, or Winter’s Ducks, waggling in their newly found lake. Just recently on the Friends of Madrona Marsh website a Prairie Warber was spotted by Preserve Manager, Tracy Drake. Native to the southeastern US, this is a very rare bird for Los Angeles County with less than a dozen sightings in the county in the last 60 years! Madrona Marsh Preserve & Nature Center are open Tuesday – Sunday, 10 am – 5 pm. We are located at 3201 Plaza del Amo, in Torrance. The entrance gate to the Preserve is directly across the street from the Nature Center, where there’s plenty of parking available.
