New Park Approved Along Hawthorne Blvd
The Hawthorne City Council has approved a $16,500 contract with SWA Group to design a small park that will be constructed at Hawthorne Blvd. and 129th Street. The vote was 3-2 in favor of the contract. Councilman Alex Vargas and Nilo Michelin opposed the idea saying the city wait until renovations of Hawthorne Boulevard are completed. SWA Group will provide construction drawings for the project, which has already been named Rocket Park Plaza in honor of Space Exploration Technology Corp., or SpaceX, a rocket manufacturer based in the city.
Renovation of Hawthorne Blvd. will continue through January 2015.
The boulevard will get new bike lanes, new left turn pockets, new traffic signals
and repaving and more.
