Torrance City Council says Yes! to the 2015 Rose Float

The Torrance City Council voted unanimously to provide funds towards the 2015 Torrance Rose Float. The float cost is $150,000.  The City Council agreed to fund up to $100,000. Torrance Rose Float Association has been fundraising this year, soliciting donations from Corporate Sponsors as well as private and public donors.  Their funding fell short and it was necessary to work with a subcommittee to request the funds.

The theme of the 2015 Rose Parade is “Inspiring Stories”  with Torrance’s proposed float depicting the life of Louis Zamperini, the hometown hero who died earlier this year.

Richard L. Chinen, president of the Pasadena Rose Parade association,  spoke to the City Council to encourage City Council members to agree to fund the float.

Tim Estes, President of Fiesta Floats, the float designer, provided a rendering of the 2015 Torrance Rose Float depicting the life of Louis Zamperini. The movie, “Unbroken”, a story about Louis Zamperini’s life, will debut on Christmas Day, just before the Pasadena Rose Parade.  The Zamperini family will represent him as this years Grand Marshall.
