Torrance Regional Middle School Math Competition

Congratulations to the joint efforts TUSD and ExxonMobil for a successful 4th Annual Torrance Regional Middle School Math Competition (TRMSMC) event! The fourth annual Math Competition hosted by TUSD and sponsored by ExxonMobil took place at Hull Middle School on Saturday, May 10, 2014.
Thirty-two (32) teams consisting of five (5) students each in grades 6-8, from 19 middle private and public throughout Southern California, including seven Torrance Middle Schools, came together to compete face-to-face in this Competition.

Individual Event: 160 “Mathletes” participated

2nd Place Kenton Kim from Oxford Academy, Anaheim SD
3rd Place Caroline Choi from South Pasadena, South Pasadena USD
4th Place Caroline Liu from South Pasadena, South Pasadena USD

Team Event: 32 teams participated from 19 schools

ExxonMobil generously supported this event by providing volunteers and grants that made it possible to waive the registration fees of $100.00 per team to 11 Torrance Unified middle school teams.

The TRMSMC is hosted by TUSD (Hull MS) and sponsored by ExxonMobil and organized by Mrs. Lan Yokota, a former Madrona parent volunteer. The student competitors solved a 20-30 engaging, and challenging problems no a variety of mathematical topics. This produced an exciting atmosphere for students, teachers/coaches, and school administrators.
