World Class Shopping Now in the South Bay

Today marks the opening of the new Del Amo remodel. This is the second opening of a major fashion/shopping center in the South Bay.

The Point, in El Segundo, is something new not only in the South Bay, but in the shopping center world — a curated “lifestyle center” that does not feature an anchor tenant and has an “inverted” design, with stores and restaurants facing each other.

“It’s a downtown plaza, east of Sepulveda,” said Tony D’Errico, an Manhattan Beach councilman and co-owner of Bella Beach Kids at The Point. “I mean, people like places to sit, congregate, socialize. I think traditionally, in most of our cities in the South Bay, that has been the downtown. But this creates a space on the other side of Sepulveda, which is an amazing, small downtown plaza. It’s like a European piazza.”

Del Amo Fashion Center is in the first phase of a major redevelopment which includes the construction of beautiful new Patio Cafes in the heart of the shopping center near the central Macy’s store. The garden inspired dining pavilion will replace the existing food court. Subsequent work starting in 2014 will include the creation of a new state of the art two-level mall and a new Nordstrom, opening Fall 2015.

Del Amo Fashion Square in Torrance,  today’s opening of the new state-of-the-art, two-story, 138,000-square-foot Nordstrom and adjacent high-end fashion wing with about 100 shops at Del Amo Fashion Center stores are rolling out free gifts, demonstrations and other events to lure shoppers.

The new mall also features new fabulous restaurants to join the renovated space.
